The climb of Alto de Cristelos Vilamean is a pretty 4km at an average of 5%. It is approached by the main Tomiño – Gondomar road the PO-344. The road is well surfaced, very quiet indeed, and devoid of verges. It is tree lined all the way up.
The first part of the climb goes through the village of Vilamean, and is a very gentle 3-4%. On leaving the village, the road pitches immediately to 8%+ and continues for a km passing by the Castillo. From then on the gradient is a pretty constant 5-6% all the way to the top at Cristelos. The climb is not hard, but opens up the Sierra de Groba from the east. Although on paper it doesn’t look tough, it can bite into the legs.
