This climb, of Moscoso from Mondariz, which was used in the 2011 Vuelta de España , starts in the spa town of Mondariz. Km0 is the bridge over the River Tea, that provides Aguas de Mondariz with their famous product. It is an area of unparalleled natural beauty. The climb is a steady gradient most of the way up, on good asphalt, and mainly wooded. It is a quiet road, relatively traffic free, and passes through 4 or 5 small villages.
Once past A Rúa at the half way point, the gradient kicks up, but never pitching to above 10%. It is a climb that one can get into a good rhythm. The last three kms test the legs a little more, as we pass the water fountain just before the “red kite”. A couple of bends take us through to the summit, which leads on to a false flat back towards Moscoso. This climb forms part of our 6 day climbing bespoke tour.
