Serafin Martinez

Serafin has been riding a bike since he could walk. A prolific winner in all junior categories, he decided to turn pro after leaving university in 2007, with the Galician team Karpin Galicia. In 2008 the team renamed itself as Xacobeo Galicia .A mountain domestique for the team leader Ezequiel Mosquera , Serafin rode four Vuelta de España, culminating in the 2010 edition . Serafin finished second in the king of the mountains competition that year, having had to sacrifice the top step to help Ezequiel take second in the general classification. He still got on the top step of the podium in Madrid, as Xacobeo Galicia took the team prize. His lone 50km breakaway on stage 2 to Malaga in the 2010 edition stands out. Despite temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, he survived until the last km. This ride is still talked about today in these parts.

A knee injury cut short his professional career. As a result, Serafin fell back on his degree in marketing to set up and run a sporting events business. His friendship with Dean enabled then to work together initially on just cycling events, and they saw a lot of success together. This allowed an expansion into other sports, such as running, triathlon and obstacle races. Today, QualiteSport is one of the biggest event organisation companies in Galicia. It works with local councils and corporations to bring cycling, running, swimming and endurance events together.

Serafin´s knowledge of cycling is second to none. He is always happy to share his invaluable advice with amateur cyclists. He will accompany us on some of the rides, and help everybody improve their training and enjoyment. Only available if you book cycling trips in Galicia with us !!!
